Our History

The origins of Lum Family Dentistry began in the mid 1900s with Richard Lum. After graduating from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Dental School (now known as the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry), Dr. Richard Lum settled his family in Vallejo, California. In 1952, he opened two private practices serving Solano county. Dr. Richard Lum worked until the age of 70, at which time he retired, leaving his beloved patients in the care of his son, Dr. Randall Lum.
Like his father, Dr. Randall Lum also received his dental degree from the University of the Pacific Dental School. Upon graduation in 1974, Dr. Randall Lum joined his father in practice, thus sharing in his legacy and passion for dentistry. In 1994, Dr. Randall Lum also opened a practice in Vacaville.
In 2017, Dr. Randy’s daughter-in-law, Dr. Gianna Lum, joined him in practice. Like Dr. Randy, Dr. Gianna attended the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco, where she graduated with honors, among the top five percent of her class. Following graduation in 2015, she completed a post-doctorate residency program through New York University in conjunction with the University of California San Francisco.
Today, Lum Family Dentistry continues to serve the dental needs of Solano County with one office located in Vacaville. In the past decade, the practice has gained two more family members: Laurel Lum Sander and Lindsey Lum Vizcay, both registered dental hygienists. The Lum family has also grown in recent years, adding six new babies to the mix….Maybe another future dentist?
